Somewhere hidden deep inside a physics lab on a secluded island, unknown to the rest of the world, a physicist yells a triumphant 'ah-ha!'. A spectacular beam of light bursts out of a photon thruster, and a space fighter breaks a hole through the lab walls, zooming into space at the speed of light. Space Invaders begins.
Well not really, but we're getting that much closer :O It even *looks* cool

A new virus, Zafi-B, spreading via P2P and Email, gives users this msg when infected: 'We demand that the government accommodates the homeless, tightens up the penal code and VOTES FOR THE DEATH PENALTY to cut down the increasing crime. Jun. 2004, Pécs (SNAF Team)'. Not often does a virus go around asking for a death penalty on virus writers. Anyway, its email subject headings include 'Importante!', 'Ecard!', 'E-Kort!' and 'Atviruka!'. Its P2P progs are 'WINAMP 7.0 FULL_INSTALL.EXE' and 'TOTAL COMMANDER 7.0 FULL_INSTALL.EXE'. Link.

Finally, Symantec discovered the world's first 64-bit Windows virus. Named W64.Rugrat.3344, the virus is a direct-action infector, which infects and portable executable file in the same folder as the virus, except DLLs. However, this is only a proof of concept virus, most likely written by a 'white hat' programmer and passed to Symantec as a demonstration of potential danger. As XP-64 is still in beta, these holes and others will probably be fixed before its offical release.
Security researchers have discovered a serious boundary error vulnerability in multiple versions of Microsoft's Windows platform and warned that attackers could hijack systems via Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer (IE). Rodrigo Gutierrez, a researcher with Trustix AS, notified Microsoft of the flaw with a warning that it could be exploited by malicious attackers to cause a buffer overflow and lead to system takeover. The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error, which can be triggered via Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer when connecting to a file server. This can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow by setting up a malicious share with an overly long name (about 300 bytes) containing no lower case characters. Secunia rates the flaw as "highly critical" and urged Windows XP and Windows 2000 users to restrict traffic in border routers and firewalls as a temporary workaround. Users could also disable the "Client for Microsoft Networks" for network cards to impact file sharing functionality.
